Course content
|
Transcultural nursing, meaning, focus and historical perspectives. Definition of basic terms. Application of culturally specific nursing models. Foreigners in the Czech Republic and issues of integration and health care. Characteristics of the health care delivery system in the Czech Republic, rights and obligations of foreigners when using health care, applicable legislation, and international agreements. Differences between the health care system in the Czech Republic and the health care of the countries from which most people come to us. National and ethnic minorities. Communication and language barriers. Socio-cultural handicap. Presentation of a seminar paper on a selected nationality, culture. Discussion of nursing diagnoses and specifics of nursing care.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to learn the terminology of multicultural nursing; to become familiar with the system of health care provided to foreigners, applicable legislation, and international agreements.
Students are able to plan, lead, and evaluate the nursing process of a patient taking into account the ethnic, cultural, and spiritual specifics of other nationalities or ethnic minorities within the healthcare team. Students are able to justify and defend the procedures used in professional and lay discussions. Students identify opportunities for intercultural communication and its practical use.
