Course content
Wood structure Cellulose, hemicelluloses, lignin. Pulp preparation. Stock preparation. Paper manufacturing process, supercalendering, coating. Paper and board properties. Types of printing papers. Others types of printable materials. Pigments, dyes. Binders. Solvents and additives. Printing inks manufacture. Printing inks properties. Drying mechanisms. Types of printing inks. Book binding materials.

Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing)
Learning outcomes
Complex knowledge about various types of printing materials (printing papers, packaging materials, printing inks, book binding materials), their manufacturing, application and properties influencing printing process and final using of printing product.
Orientation on various types of printing materials.
Prerequisites
Knowledge from Organic chemistry and Introduction to Graphic Arts and Printing Technology.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Written examination

Written test - 50 % of examination. Oral examination - 50 % of examination.
