Course content
Wood morphology, cells of wood, structure of cell wall Celulose, hemicelulose, lignin Pigments - fillers of paper, components of coating mixture Structure of uncoated and coated paper Fiber-water bond, paper humidity, paper conditioning Paper degradation - mechanisms of celulose and others components of paper, durability of paper, accelerated aging of paper Colorforming components of printing inks - pigments, dyes, colors theory Film-forming components - chemistry, properties and their influence on the use of printing inks Solvents, thinners - chemistry, properties and their influence on the use of printing inks Additives - chemistry, properties and their influence on the use of printing inks Interaction printing ink-paper, mechanisms of ink drying Development trends in printing inks and papers industry

Learning outcomes
The intensifying students knowledge gained in the course Graphic arts materials especially in the field of printing inks, printing papers and their behaviour in the printing process.
Wider knowledge about printing inks and paper structure. Student is able to assume and explain various problems of interaction paper and printing ink during printing process.

Knowledge from lessons Introduction to Graphic Arts and Printing Technology, Printing Machinery.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Written examination

To prove the knowledge extent and its application at practical problems solving in discussion of the selected topics. The knowledge classification includes printing inks (50 %) and papers (50 %).
