Course content
|
Terminology and the characteristics of some basic types of operating procedures and an overview and a characteristic of operating approaches and techniques in general and thoracic surgery. Topographic anatomy and a function of organs operated in general and thoracic surgery. Pathophysiological conditions, their diagnosis and indications for surgical treatment in general and thoracic surgery. Examination methods in general surgery. Surgery on the abdominal wall and in the inguinal canal - hernia. Sudden abdominal events (acute appendicitis, peritonitis, ileal conditions, gastrointestinal bleeding). Gastric and duodenal surgery. Bariatric surgery. Small and large intestine surgery, anal and pelvic floor surgery. Mammary gland surgery, thyroid gland surgery. The most common minimally invasive surgery in the digestive surgery. Perioperative care - specific aspects of individual surgical procedures in the general surgery. Instrumentarium, specific instruments, implants, medicaments and other medical devices, material and aids.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the subject is to acquaint students with theoretical and practical issues of general and thoracic surgery, both in diagnostics and in particular treatments.
Students know the anatomy, topographic anatomy, pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment and principles of perioperative care in general and thoracic surgery. They are familiar with the surgical procedures of the most common treatments in this field. They provide the patients with nursing care as perioperative nurses/midwives. They know the risks and the crisis situations in general and thoracic surgery resulting from the operation of operating theatres.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Oral examination, Written examination
Completion of mandatory 60% attendance at lectures. Completion of mandatory 80% participation in seminars. Submitting a set written work and passing an oral exam.
