Course content
Surgical procedure and pre-operative preparation. Pre-operative examination. The immediate preparation of female client for intervention. The tactics, the technique and the course of selected operations. The immediate and subsequent postoperative care. Care specifics of female clients in the surgical ICU. Post-operative complications. Infection in the pre-operative care. Classification of surgical wounds according to the microbial contamination. The prevention and solution of crisis situations in the pre-operative care. Pre-operative care (principles and activities) in the role of surgical technologist and the circulating nurses. Documentation in pre-operative care. Communication with the client on the surgical workplace, the problems solution associated with the disease, hospital admissions and subsequent care. Care specifics of the selected examination methods in pre-operative care. Care specifics before and during the selected operating interventions. Sampling of biological material in pre-operative care. Outpatient operation of the surgical department.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquire comprehensive care of female patient in pre-operative care.
Student carries out independently the basic and specialized operations on the female client during the pre-operative examination and preparation before the operations. Student performs nursing care independently, immediately after surgical operation, he/ she monitors independently the overall status of female client. Student is familiar with the possible post-operative complications and he/ she responds to them adequately. Student masters the correct communication with the female client and her family during the pre-operative care.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written examination

Completion of compulsory attendance at the (60 %) and practicum sesilní (80 %). Successful completion of the written exam. Fulfilment of a written test or an oral examination, according to the decision of the course guarantor.
