Course content
Terminology and characteristics of the basic types of surgical procedures, overview and characteristics of surgical approaches and techniques in cardiothoracic and vascular surgery. Topographical anatomy and function of the organs operated on in cardiothoracic and vascular surgery. Pathophysiological conditions, their diagnosis and indications for surgical treatment in cardiothoracic and vascular surgery. Heart surgery, valves, by-passes. Reconstructive procedures on the aorta. Operations on the arterial and portal system. Operations on the venous system, operations on varices of the lower limbs. Multi-organ harvesting. Issues of transplantation surgery, the most common procedures. Paediatric cardiothoracic surgery. Introduction to interventional angiology and radiology. Overview and characteristics of surgical approaches and techniques in interventional angiology and radiology. Selected surgical procedures and specific aspects of individual surgical procedures in interventional angiology and radiology. Perioperative care - specific aspects of individual surgical procedures in cardiothoracic, vascular and transplant surgery. Instrumentarium, medical equipment, implants, drugs, medical devices, material and aids in cardiac surgery, vascular and transplant surgery. Perioperative care - specific aspects of individual surgical procedures in angiology and interventional radiology. Instrumentarium, medical equipment, implants, drugs, medical devices, material and aids in cardiac surgery and intervention radiology.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is to acquaint students with specifics of the fields of cardiac surgery, vascular surgery, angiology, interventional radiology, and with the issues of selected surgical diseases and conditions and their surgical treatment.
Students know the anatomy, topographic anatomy, pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment and principles of perioperative care in cardiothoracic surgery, vascular surgery, angiology, and interventional radiology. They are familiar with the surgical processes of the most common procedures in this field. They provide nursing care to patients as perioperative nurses. They know the risks and critical situations in these fields. They know the principles of transplant surgery.

Assessment methods and criteria

Fulfilment of compulsory 60 % attendance in lectures. Fulfilment of compulsory 80 % attendance in seminars. Written assignment. Successful completion of an oral exam or written test according to the requirements of the subject guarantor.
