Course content
Terminology and characteristics of basic types of surgical procedures and overview and characteristics of surgical approaches and techniques in orthopaedics. Hip joint/topographic anatomy, joint function, surgical approaches, types of surgery and their diagnosis and indications for surgery/. Knee joint/topographical anatomy, joint function, surgical approaches, types of surgery and their diagnosis and indications for surgery/. Shoulder joint/topographical anatomy, joint function, surgical approaches, types of surgery and their diagnosis and indications for surgery/. Ankle joint and leg/topographical anatomy, function, surgical approaches, types of operations and their diagnosis and indications for surgery/. Elbow joint, wrist and hand/topographical anatomy, function, surgical approaches, types of surgery and their diagnosis and indications for surgery/. Diaphyseal surgery/topographical anatomy, function, surgical approaches, types of surgery and their diagnosis and indications for surgery/. Perioperative care - specific aspects of individual surgical procedures in orthopaedics. Instrumentation, specific instrumentation, implants, medications and other medical devices, materials and aids.

Learning outcomes
The objective of the course is to acquaint students with specifics of the field of orthopaedic surgery, issues of selected surgical diseases and their surgical therapy.
Students will master anatomy, topographical anatomy, pathophysiology, diagnostics, treatment and principles of perioperative care in orthopaedic surgery. Students will orientate themselves in surgical procedures in most frequent therapies in these fields. Students will be capable of providing nursing care in their role of a perioperative nurse, and they will be aware of risks and crisis situations in orthopaedic surgery resulting from situations in operating rooms.

Meeting the mandatory 80% attendance at lectures. Fulfilling the mandatory 80% participation in exercises. Completion of the assigned written work. Successful completion of an oral exam or written test according to the requirements of the subject guarantor.
