Course content
Nomenclature and characteristics of basic types of surgical treatment, and overview and characteristics of surgical treatment and procedures in neurosurgery. Topographical anatomy and functions of organs involved in neurosurgery. Pathophysiological conditions, their diagnostics and indication for surgical treatment in neurosurgery. Brain surgery. Spine and spinal cord surgery. Surgery of peripheral nerves. Stereotactic surgery. Perioperative care - specific aspects of individual surgical procedures in neurosurgery. Equipment and instruments, specific instruments, implants, pharmaceutics and other medical supplies, materials and aids.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is to acquaint students with specifics of the field of Neurosurgery, with issues of selected neurosurgical diseases and conditions, and their surgical treatment
Students will master anatomy, topographical anatomy, pathophysiology, diagnostics, treatment and principles of perioperative care in neurosurgery. Students will orientate themselves in surgical procedures in most frequent therapies in the field. Students in their role of a perioperative nurse will be able to provide patients with nursing care. Students will be aware of risks and crisis situations in neurosurgery resulting from situations in operating rooms.

Assessment methods and criteria

Fulfillment of the mandatory 60% attendance at lectures. Fulfillment of the mandatory 80% participation in exercises. Fulfillment of the assigned written work. Successful completion of an oral exam or written test according to the requirements of the subject guarantor.
