Course content
|
Periodization of ontogenetic development. Teratology. Formation and development of human gametes. Regulation of gamet development. Ovarian and menstrual cycle. Fertilization, cleavage, implantation. Notogenesis and formation of the outer shape of the embryo. Development of the embryo´s shape and size. Growth of the foetus. Development of a multiple pregnancy. Nourishment of the embryo. Development of the foetal membranes, placenta, and umbilical cord, and their anomalies. Development of the heart and blood vessel system. Foetal blood circulation and its changes after birth. Congenital heart defects. Development of the face and limbs. Development of the digestive tract. Outline: development of the respiratory system. Development of the genitourinary system.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with issues related to the beginning of the human embryonic development and with issues shared between embryology and obstetrics.
After attending the course, students will have a knowledge level of the studied subject that will form a theoretical foundation for subsequent, practically oriented subjects.
