Course content
Health and its determinants. Health education methods and their use. A healthy way of life. General epidemiology and its methods. Hygiene and epidemiology in relation to public health protection. The incidence of infectious diseases and their prevention. Prevention of nosocomial infections. Substance dependence issues. Nosocomial medicine. Public health of the EU and the WHO. Health policy of the EU and the WHO. Implementation of the WHO health policy at the national level. Types and forms of health services and the conditions for their provision in health care facilities. International classification. Healthcare statistics. Modifiable determinants of health. Health education methods and their use. Implementation of the WHO health policy at the national level. Healthcare statistics and demographics.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the complex issues of state health policy with a priority focus on prevention supporting health. The subject further specifically deals with international cooperation in the health sector, with WHO tasks, including its structure, with the basic health systems in the world and with the authorities of the health protection and their tasks.
By completing the course, the student acquires professional knowledge and skills from the field of aid and maintain health by adhering to a healthy lifestyle with effective education and provision of information when the identified risks and in direct threat to the health of individuals, families and communities. Student uses a variety of educational methods in health care and the prevention of disease in individuals, groups and whole society. Student knows the basics of hygiene and epidemiology in connection with the protection of public health and he/ she applies acquired knowledge and skills in practice. Student is versed in national and transnational organisation and application of health policies, and he/ she can use this knowledge in his work.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Home assignment evaluation, Presentation

Completion of compulsory attendance at the lectures and practicum sessions. Completion of a written test or oral examination according to the course guarantor's decision.
