Course content
Special pedagogy as a study and scientific discipline. History of care for people with disabilities. The influence of current changes in the education of pupils with special needs, and integration. The national plan for the creation of equal opportunities for people with a health disability. The system of special pedagogy. Introduction to issues of people with mental retardation, dementia, and autism spectrum disorders. Introduction to issues of people with physical disability, health impairment, and to issues of the ill. Introduction to issues of people with sensory disabilities. Introduction to speech therapy. Introduction to issues of people with impaired socialization, behavioural and emotional disorders, and to issues of people with addictions. Introduction to issues of people with multiple disabilities. Issues of people with specific learning disabilities and with the ADHD syndrome. Early childhood special pedagogy and early care. Special pedagogical andragogy and gerontagogy. The position of a comprehensive, coordinated (re)habilitation in special pedagogy. Collaboration of specialized pedagogical institutions and non-governmental non-profit entities. Analysis of current trends in special pedagogy; school law. Current trends in the care of individuals with a disability - integration. Strategic documents of global organizations, the European Union, and the current legislative measures in the Cech Republic. Special pedagogy and frontier scientific disciplines including health and social work. Integration and inclusive education. Application of pedagogical and specialized pedagogical principles to practice. Current issues of target groups of special pedagogy. Alternative schools and alternative pedagogical concepts. Counselling facilities and leisure activities. Interdepartmental collaboration -schooling, health care, and social services. Sources of information for people with a disability.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the subject is to provide students with basic pedagogical and special pedagogical conceptual apparatus including basic knowledge of the various fields of special pedagogy.
The student knows the causes, manifestations, and consequences of sensory disability, mental disability, communication disorders and impairments, physical defects, selected chronic illnesses, and specific learning disabilities and behavioural disorders.

Home assignment evaluation, Student performance assessment, Work-related product analysis, Didactic test

Completion of the assigned work. Completion of compulsory 80% attendance at the lectures and practicum sessions. Successful completion of an assignment test.
