Course content
Introduction of Pediatrics. The system of prenatal care in the country. Investigation methods in prenatal care. Growth and development of the healthy child. Congenital evolutionary disorders, heredity. Physiological and pathological newborn. Diseases of the digestive tract. Diseases of the endocrine glands and growth disorders. Diseases of the blood, heart and blood circulation. Diseases of muscles, bones, rheumatic disease. Diseases of the respiratory tract. Diseases of the kidney and urinary tract. Diseases of the nervous system. Diseases of the immune system, allergic diseases, shock. Skin diseaseshos. Oncological diseases in pediatrics. Chronic diseases and impacts on the social status of the family. Examination in prenatal care. Basics in newborn care. Nutrition in neonates and infants, breastfeeding. Care specifics of the hospitalized children. Evaluation of growth and development, basic physical examination. Preventive examinations in childhood, vaccinations. Child nutrition. Preoperative and postoperative care, cooping with pain in children. Care basics of children with selected symptoms (fever, runny nose, shortness of breath, cough, cramps, diarrhea, constipation).

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the prenatal care system and the basic preventive and therapeutic focus of paediatrics. The course focuses on preventive care from the prenatal period to adolescence, as well as the physiology and pathology of childhood, including diseases that have an impact on the psychological and social aspects of the child's entire family.
Students are familiar with the child care system in the Czech Republic and they are able to recognize and assess the needs of a sick child. Students know the causes and symptoms of pathological conditions in paediatrics that threaten the health and life of a child, the differential diagnosis of these conditions, and they are able to provide appropriate professional assistance during their first contact with a child.
