History and present health and social care for people with physical, intellectual and multiple disabilities. A person with physical, mental and multiple disabilities in the system of health and social services and care. Comprehensive diagnostics. Principle of access to people with physical, intellectual and multiple disabilities. Augmentative and alternative communication. Health and social care for people with physical, mental and multiple disabilities in the system of comprehensive rehabilitation. Institutional care and family care. The transformation of residential services and preference services and day services. Activational activities, the use of therapeutic-formative approaches. Freetime activities. Compensatory and re-educational tools. Systematic approach to individuals with autism spectrum disorder. System approach to the issue of care for people with dementia. Interventions for people with psychiatric disorders. The role of the nonprofit sector. Provision of social services, counseling, social services quality standards. Modern trends in health and social care for people with physical, intellectual and multiple disabilities. Analysis of strategic documents. Transformation and deinstitutionalization. Therapeutic methods. The use of alternative and augmentative communication systems.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to characterize and define the basic specifics of people with physical, mental and multiple disabilities. The aim is to acquaint students especially with the possibility of supporting those people and lead them to optimize professional approach to these individuals.
The student knows the care history and present of the target group, its personal characteristics, legislation. He/ she has clear links within the context of comprehensive rehabilitation. He/ she can apply his/ her knowledge in practice in different organizations providing social and health and social services. He/ she has knowledge from consulting, quality standards of social services, leisure activities, housing, activational activities implemented within the target group.

Assessment methods and criteria

The fulfilment of compulsory attendance at lectures. The fulfilment of 80 % active participation at seminars. Processing of seminar work. Test of practical skills. The fulfilment of the credit test and successful completion of the oral examination.
