Course content
Introduction to issues - legislation, strategic documents, the rights of the child. Social pediatrics - development and conception. The transformation of the system of care for vulnerable child in the Czech Republic. Deinstitutionalisation. Standards of care for vulnerable children and their families. Characteristics of the field and institutional care for vulnerable child. Early care - service social prevention. The Role of the state and of non-governmental non-profit sector. Social and legal protection of the child. The syndrome of maltreated, abused and neglected child (CAN). Target group - vulnerable child, the family (biological, surrogate), the interdisciplinary team. Redevelopment of the family. Substitute family care. Professional foster parents. Familiarization with the plan of the exercise, the topics of credit work and the requirements for case reports. Practical training - deinstitutionalization, the role of state and non-governmental non-profit sector in the care of a vulnerable child. Discussions with the staff of the organisations engaged in the care of a vulnerable child. Caring for a child with the syndrome CAN. Presentation of case studies.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the problems of caring for the vulnerable child in the Czech republic and the countries of the European union.
Student consolidates knowledge from the field of social service early care, social and legal protection of children and he/ she acquires knowledge about the system transformation of care for endangered children in the Czech Republic and EU countries. This is primarily about the topics of: social prevention service - early care, foster care, substitute family care, institutional care. Student is versed in the issues of preventive activities of individual planning.

The fulfilment of compulsory attendance at lectures and seminars. Written test or oral exam fulfilment according to course guarantor decision.
