Course content
Definition of a family and its typology. Methods of social work with a family, social-therapeutic methods. Pro-family social policy in the Czech Republic. The course of social work with a family. Social work with a family in the context of social-legal protection of children and in the framework of institutional education. Social work with a family in divorce. Introducing the plan of exercises, topics of credit works and requirements for case studies. Field work with a family ("family rehabilitation"). Social counselling for families. Parental responsibility. Trends in family development. Marriage vs. unmarried cohabitation. Quality standards of social-legal protection of children, quality standards of social services. Model situations - training of partial methods and techniques (mediation, facilitation, family conferences...)

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the problems of contemporary families and social work with families with an emphasis on the ability to use appropriate approaches to work with families according to a specific situation and depending on the role/position of a social worker.
Students know the most important topics (problems) in the field of social work with families and how to view these topics in a broader context.

Assessment methods and criteria

The fulfilment of compulsory attendance at lectures and seminars. Writing a seminar paper or a case study on a given topic. Written test or oral exam fulfilment according to course guarantor decision.
