Course content
|
Gerontology and the basic concepts of the discipline. Population aging and its consequences. Involutional changes in the age and the myths about old age. The issue of self-sufficiency and dependence in old age. Ethical aspects of care of the elderly. Institutions providing care for the elderly. Active old age, education of the elderly. Old people in social relations, intergenerational relations. Ageism, elderly abuse, the socially negative phenomena in the elderly. The social perspective of old age and aging. Types of human dignity. The identification of the myths about old age in the student view of the world. Lifestyle changes during the past century. Family and relationships with senior. Elderly abuse - discussion of examples from the practice. Euthanasia - in the world and in the Czech Republic. Accepting your own mortality, the discussion over death as a taboo.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to give students knowledge in the field of social work with the elderly.
Student knows basic knowledge about old age and aging from the point of view of social context. Learners can apply relevant methods of social work when working with the elderly and versed in the issues of providing care for the elderly.

The fulfilment of compulsory attendance at lectures and seminars. Written test or oral exam fulfilment according to course guarantor decision.
