Course content
Pre-operative care - introduction. The education of midwives in pre-operative care. Competencies the role of the midwife in providing pre-operative care. The location, spatial arrangement, construction and technical equipment of the operating tract. The organization, structure, and operation of workplaces and staffing in pre-operative care. The efficiency of the operation of the operating tract. The health and safety of the patient and the staff in pre-operative care. Hygiene, microbiology and epidemiology in pre-operative care, the handling of waste, of the class of purity. Nosocomial and professional disease. Categories of healthcare workers in pre-operative care, the surgical team. Legal liability in pre-operative care, the statutory standards to the requirements in pre-operative care. Instrumentation in pre-operative care. Pre-operative safety process - practical training. Barrier nursing techniques. Evaluation and measuring range in pre-operative care.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquire terminology and practical skills in the field of general pre-operative care. This is a crucial issue for the students in the field of study Pre-operative care in gynecology and obstetrics.
Student carries out independently the basic and specialized operations in the workplace providing pre-operative care. Student is well-versed and he/ she applies properly principles of asepsis and antisepsis in his/ her work, he/ she is well-versed in handling with all the amenities and the spatial arrangement of workplaces of pre-operative care.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written examination

Completion of compulsory 50% attendance at the lectures. Completion of compulsory 80% active participation at seminars. Written examination.
