Course content |
Introduction to information science, basic terms. History of libraries. Libraries today (at present), Internet. Document processing - name and subject description. Secondary information resources - catalogues, bibliographies. Searching the Internet - subject trees, search engines, portals. Information and database centres, types of databases, theoretical principles of searching. Specialized information resources focused on law and public administration. Specialized information resources focused on competitive intelligence. Multidisciplinary and subject-specific electronic information resources. E-journals, searching full texts. Special information resources: patent and standards databases. Preparation and realization of the recherche.

Learning outcomes |
Purpose of the subject - to teach students to individually and effectively exploit library and information services focused on computer sciences and electrical engineering; to be familiar with the standards of bibliographic references and to be able to use them.
The student is document literate, he/she is able to solve specific information tasks. He/she can choose the appropriate information resources connected to an assigned topic, seek the relevant information, elaborate the recherche and cite the used sources correctly. He/she can state his/her case and defend his/her procedures. |

Student is familiar with user level of computer literacy and elementary knowledge of English.

Assessment methods and criteria |
Home assignment evaluation, Work-related product analysis
Recherche elaboration on the assigned topic including bibliographic references according to standards ČSN ISO 690 and 690/2. 70% seminar attendance is obligatory. |
