Course content
|
The oldest afterlife notions of mankind: from Palaeolithic to Neolithic. Interpretation of symbols in the oldest art. Religion of Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, China and America. Balkan and Egyptian roots of the Greek religion. Religion of Celts, Germans and Balts. Specifics of Slavs and religion of northern Asians. Monotheism and religious intolerance. Paganism as a state religion in Ancient Rome and medieval Lithuania. Shamanism in the past and present. Ethnic religion of the 21st century.

Learning outcomes
|
The objective of the course is to introduce the students to the basic ways of researching religions, to their typology, analysis and interpretation
The students will be able to orientate themself in the study of religions and on their historical development

Student performance assessment, Didactic test, Discussion
Active participation in lectures and study of selected materials. Written test. Essay on a chosen topic.
