Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the issues surrounding the indigenous peoples of North America, i.e., Native Americans, Inuit, and Métis. We will focus on disrupting the stereotypical perception of Native Americans as a homogeneous group and, on the contrary, emphasize their cultural differences at the time of contact with colonists. We will also learn about the current situation and status of indigenous peoples. We will work not only with the work produced by researchers from the dominant society about Native Americans, but we will also use available literature and films created by the indigenous peoples themselves. An integral part of the lectures is the role and attitude of anthropologists in their research among the indigenous peoples of North America.
