Course content |
Basic data on Romanies in the world. Basic data on Romanies in the CR and SR - ethno-social, linguistic and demographic characteristics. Beginnings of the Roma studies in the CR, in Moravia and in Slovak Republic. Current state of the Roma studies in the CR, SR - research institutions and individuals. Czech and Moravian Romanies, Slovak, Hungarian and Olas Romanies. Marginalisation and social exclusion. Identity and ethno-emancipation issues. Roma culture. Romanies and literature, art, etc.

Learning outcomes |
The objective of the course is to offer basic information on the Roma studies, on the subject of its study and findings of research done mainly in the CR. Attention will be paid to cultural and scientific institutions dealing with the Roma studies.
Students will be able to speak about and discuss basic Roma topics; they will be able to refer to works and studies of this field. They will enhance their competence necessary for possible field research in Roma communities; ethical approach of research in socially excluded communities will be mentioned. |
