Course content
What does sociology study and how it came to existence. Basic theoretical perspective (dilemmas) of sociology. Social structure and social interaction. Socialisation. Family and its crisis. Culture and institutions. Socio-cultural inequality. Socio-economic inequality. Two views on the function of current educational systems. Social deviation. Methods of sociological research. When is sociology beneficial? (Options and limitations).

Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming)
Learning outcomes
The objective of the course is to offer the students, who study different disciplines, a basic understanding of selected theoretical concepts: how and why it came to existence, its main subject matter, theoretical background, the research methods. Students will also get acquinted with the key figures and theories of sociology/social anthropology. All these concepts will help us to better scrutinize key issues faced by the contemporary societies around the world.
Students will gain an understanding of selected concepts and social problems representing a core of the contemporary sociology/social anthropology.
