Course content
Formal organization as a subject of sociology. Origin and the development of bureaucracy. Unintended consequences and dysfunction of bureaucracy (Merton and Gouldner). The bureaucratic personality (Merton and Crozier). Bureaucratization and McDonaldisation of society (Weber and Ritzer). Human relations theory (Mayo and Homans). Current alternatives to bureaucratic control.

The main aim of the course to giv a basic orinetation theories on the bureaucracy and formal organisation.
