Course content

Introduction to transport logistics, basic concepts. Material flows, material handling. Important of containers in logistics, packaging and loading of goods. Formation of handling and transport units. Logistic technologies in rail transport. Logistic technologies in road transport. Logistic technologies in air transport. Logistic technologies in water transport. Combined transport. Assessment of technical data of vehicles with regard to transport capacity and optimisation of transport chains. Types of warehouses and their importance. Role and importance of logistics centres in distribution chains. Carriers as logistics service providers. Case studies. Extra time, summary of information.

The aim of the course is to introduce students to the application of logistics principles and technologies in various modes of transportation.
Upon completion of the course, the students will be able to understand the issues of organisation of logistics chains in individual modes of transport.
