Course content
The importance of modelling in planning and decision making. Definition of model, definition of process, types of models with examples from transport. Model structure and architecture. Technological process of model development and in optimizing the technological process in transport. Linear programming in transportation and MS Excel solver add-in. Use of network analysis for modelling of technological process. MS Project. Multicriteria analysis in modelling of technological process. Simulation models. Synchronization of simulation calculation - event scheduling method. Life cycle of simulation study/project. Use of Petri nets for modelling technological processes.

Learning outcomes
The objective of the course is to familiarize students with an overview of commonly used technological processes and the possibilities for their modelling.
The student is able to use the knowledge from the course in solving his/her PhD-thesis.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination

Active participation in lectures and completion of a task processed using MS Project software during the seminar. The exam will be oral, consisting of one question related to the road transport issue and one to the railway transport issue.
