Course content
School management - introduction to the issues, basic topics, conceptual map of the system of administration and management. Management as a process, development of management. Development of education administration and management in the Czech lands at home and abroad, Models of administration and management at home and abroad. Managers in education, competences of the school director. Intervention in pedagogical-psychological counselling, educational counselling. School marketing. Quality management in education and its evaluation. Personnel management, selected problems of people management (leadership). School legislation: constitution, school laws and other legal norms regulating education. School culture, image and public relations. Time management. School climate, classroom climate.

Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing), Dialogic (discussion, interview, brainstorming), Methods of individual activities
  • Participation in classes - 26 hours per semester
  • Preparation for a credit (assessment) - 30 hours per semester
  • Independent critical reading - 22 hours per semester
  • Preparation of a presentation (report) - 12 hours per semester
Learning outcomes
The objective of this course is to introduce to students the basic problems of the management of school system in the Czech Republic and in the world. Students acquire knowledge and skills in the field of leadership and management of schools and school facilities, orient themselves in school legislation and are able to apply the knowledge of general management to school practice.
Students will be able to understand the problem, to analyze the features and connections, to evaluate and classify new information into the structure of the whole system - while also taking into account strategic trends and perspectives. Emphasis is given to the management of regional education and its administrative and organizational problems.
