Course content

Basics of vector calculus, derivation, integral. System SI . Kinematics. Dynamics. Mechanics of solid body, center of mass. The Newton's gravitations law, field strength, work, potential energy. Law of Archimedes, Pascal's law. Hydrodynamics, continuity equation, Bernoulli's equation. Real liquids, viscosity. Mechanical deformation, tension, Hook's law. Harmonic oscillator. Transversal and longitudinal waves, interference, Doppler effect. Temperature, measurement of temperature, thermal expansion of matter Introduction to kinetic theory of gases. Heat capacity, calorimetry. Electrostatics, Coulombs law, electric field. Electric field in matter, polarization of dielectrics. Motion of charged particles in electric field. Charged conductor, capacity. Electric currents, Ohms law, electrical conductivity ? insulator, semiconductor, and conductor. Kirchhoff's laws. Magnetism - basic quantities. Magnetic field of the conductor under current - Biot - Savart's law. Magnetic properties of matter. Lorentz force, mass spectrometer, Hall effect, force on conductor under current in magnetic field. Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction, electric generator. Alternating currents, transformer.

Introduce students into key topics of general physics - mechanics, electrostatics, electrodynamics, magnetism, electromagnetism, optics, and basics of quantum physics.
Subject broadens the high school knowledge and provides students with the basics of physics necessary for study of following subjects. Solution of advanced physical problems.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Oral examination, Written examination, Student performance assessment
Three exams in written form, (2 semester, 1 final exam), constitute cca 40 % of the final grade. Oral on 3 to 5 topics from the content of the subject.
