Course content
Division of plastics in terms of their processing. Division according to basic substances - hot conditions behaviour; according to spatial molecular structure. Division into plastics, fibres, NH, adhesives and rubber. Rheologic behaviour of melt plastics - flow properties melt viscosity, melt flow index Rheologic demonstrations of plastic melts and flow defects (growth behind nozzle, melt refraction, elastic turbulence). Ingredients and their influence on properties and workability of plastics. Softening agents, lubricants and separating agents, high-molecular fluidity modifiers. Filling agents, reinforcements and binding agents, pigments, optical whiteners, foaming agents, antistatic agents. Plastic oxidizing stabilizers - heat stabilizers, light stabilizers. Burn retarders. Biologic stabilizers - biocides, biologic decomposition of plastics. Basic processing technologies - preparatory works, pressing and injection molding Basic processing technologies - calendaring, pressing Basic processing technologies - injecting Basic processing technologies - hollow vessels blowing, hot forming Basic processing technologies - liquid systems processing, rubber processing Basic processing technologies - foamed substances processing, thermosetting polymers processing

Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic (reading, lecture, briefing)
Learning outcomes
The subject introduces to students rheologic behaviour of plastic melts, describes the characteristics of basic processing technologies used for thermoplastics and thermosetting polymers, dealing with the influence of the ingredients on the properties and workability of plastics.
Students will acquire detailed information about rheologic behaviour of plastic melts and about basic processing technologies used for thermoplastics and thermosetting polymers.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of macromolecular and physical chemistry, technolgy of polymers manufacturing.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Written examination

The assessment comprises a written test and oral exam. An integral part of the examination is a discussion on selected topics.
