Course content
|
Polyreactions, step and chain, polycondensation, polyaddition, industrial processes, raw materials. Chemical engineering aspects of polyreactions in industrial scale. Radical addition polymerization, reactivity ratios, methods of radical polymerization - solution, suspension, emulsion polymerization. Polyolefines - polyethylene, polypropylene. Diene and polystyrene polymers. Polyhalogeneolefines, polyvinyl esters. Fiber forming polymers. Acrylic polymers. Polyesters, polyamides, aramides. Synthetic resins as matrixes in composites.

Learning outcomes
|
The course explains principles of macromolecular chemistry, polymerization reactions and basic properties of polymers. Second part of the course is an introduction to polymers manufacturing and processing. Included are plastics, rubbers, fiber forming polymers, natural polymers. Various aspects of polymer manufacturing and processing are mentioned as chemical engineering, safety problems, hazardous monomers etc.
Student is educated in apllied macromolecular chemistry, polymerization reactions in industrial scale and basic properties of polymers, manufacturing and processing of plastics, rubbers, fiber forming polymers.
