Course content
|
The subject includes: Models of polymer chain. Molar mass and its determination. Structure and effect on polymer properties. Static and dynamic light scattering. Chromatography techniques with the focus on gel permeation chromatography. Combination of gel permeation chromatography with a light scattering and viscometric detectors. Asymmetric flow field flow fractionation. Characterization of polymer branching. Spectral methods with the focus on infrared spectroscopy. Review of thermal techniques. Basics of testing lacquers and paints. Basics of mechanical testing.

Learning outcomes
|
The course explains basic principles of various analytical techniques used to characterize synthetic and natural polymers with the focus on various separation techniques coupled with advanced detection systems. Description of basic structure and properties of macromolecular materials is also a part of the course. Demonstration of instrumental equipment in the laboratories of company SYNPO is a part of the course.
Student is education in the area of basic analytical techniques specific for macromolecular materials.
