Course content
Time table of labs: 1. Introductory lesson, safety in laboratories, instructions, preparation of starting materials for the next week (disintegration, drying of biomass, etc.). 2. Chemical treatment of waste polyester material. PET hydrolysis and separation of terephtalic acid. 3. Used vegetable oil as raw material for fatty acids methyl esters (FAME). 4. Application of glycerol phase produced as by-product by FAME production for biomass treatment. 5. Sustainable nitration of aromatic compounds. Preparation of intermediate nitroterephtalic acid. 6. Utilization of anthropogenic carbon dioxide in chemical technology. Carboxylation of phenolic compounds. 7. Concepts of waste waters treatment produced in previous practices based on material balances. Characterization of wastewater and its subsequent treatment. 8. Production of reactive iron species. Reduction of nitroterephtalic acid producing intermediate for azo dye synthesis. 9. Production of azo dyes by diazotization and azocoupling. (For example: Azocoupling of diazotized aminoterephtalic acid on resorcylic acid). 10. Dyeing of cotton fabrics by reactive dyes. 11. Experimental verification of sorption capacity of prepared alternative sorbent. 12. Water treatment based on struvite precipitation. 13. Presentation of results obtained during labs. Semestral test. Classification.

Learning outcomes
The aim of this subject is to introduce students in area of sustainable chemical processes and to make students familiar with modern laboratory chemical methods for green and sustainable production of chemicals according to the best available techniques.
After finishing of the studies at this subject, absolvents should be able to lead workers in the laboratory in a wide range of industries.

Assessment methods and criteria
Home assignment evaluation, Self project defence

Level of acquired knowledge, conceptions and application acquirements is examined. Knowledge is examined by PowerPoint presentation at the end of semester and its result is included into total classification.
