Course content
The timetable of lectures: Week 1: Movement and fate of toxic substances in the environment. Week 2: Interaction of toxic substances to the organism - the basics toxicokinetics. Week 3: Selected mechanisms of toxic effects at the cellular and molecular level. Week 4: Ecotoxicity tests - modern experimental approaches. Week 5: Residues of pharmaceuticals in the environment. Week 6: Ecotoxicity effects of pesticides I - organophosphates (substances with acute effects. Week 7: Ecotoxicity effects of pesticides II - halogenated hydrocarbons (substances with chronic effects). Week 8: Endocrine disruptors - substances that deplete the hormonal system. Week 9: Environmentally effects of heavy metals and their compounds. Week 10: Ecotoxicological effects of nanoparticles. Week 11: Environmentally effects of mixtures - a new concept of understanding the phenomena leading to damage to the body. Week 12: Oil in the environment - the Exxon Valdez accident. Week 13: Radionuclides in the environment - the nuclear power plant accident at Černobyl. phenomena associated with a significant redistribution of toxic substances in the environment. Week 14: Floods, hurricanes, volcanic activity - phenomena associated with a significant redistribution of toxic substances in the environment.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the problems of the effects of selected toxic substances on living organisms (microorganisms, plants, animals). Attention is paid to the ways of the entry of toxic substances into the environment (industrial accidents, waste, application of pesticides, etc.), their fate in the environment (persistence, biodegradation, bioaccumulation, etc.) and their interactions with organisms at the cellular, organ, organ systém, individual and population level. The method of obtaining and evaluating ecotoxicological data and the possibility of their interpretation are documented on the specific examples.
Student will have knowledge about the environmental toxicology.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of basic toxicology.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written examination, Student performance assessment

Passing the test is subject to a final written report.
