Course content
Basic concepts of health, health services and health policy. Healthcare in relation to economic theory. State interventions in health care. Health systems in the world. Financing health services. Forms of ownership and economy of medical facilities. Public health insurance, health insurance companies in the Czech Republic. Territorial network of medical facilities. Managed care. Drug policy. Quality of health care and its evaluation. Specifics of strategic management in health care. Social policy and social security in the social system of society. Social insurance, social support and assistance systems in the Czech Republic. Social services and ways of providing them. Standardization and methods for evaluating the effectiveness of social services. Concept of social housing institute. Social Security Perspectives in the Czech Republic. Learning outcomes
Learning outcomes of the course unit The aim of the course is to provide an overview of the organization and operation of institutions in the areas of health and social care, to analyze possible ways of providing the care and to explain the methods of financing the institutions.
A student who has successfully completed the course can: - explain specific ways of financing health care facilities; - characterize and assess ways of assessing the quality of health care; - Describe and compare possible ways of realization of social security on the national and territorial level; - Explain and compare ways of evaluating social security activities. A student who has successfully completed the course will: - prepare methodologies for quality assessment in health care facilities; -create basic conceptual documents in the field of social security; - to seek resources for social care provision at the national and regional level. A student who has successfully completed the course is able to: - take standpoints on current economic issues addressed within health and social care institutions; - communicate comprehensively and convincingly to professionals and lay people information on current and future developments in selected segments of health and social care and to present their own views on the future direction of the institutions.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of management at the bachelor level is expected.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Written examination, Home assignment evaluation, Presentation

Completion of the course on the basis of participation in seminars, elaboration of a seminar paper, written or oral exam with written preparation. In case of unfavorable epidemiological development of COVID 19 in the Pardubice Region, the Czech Republic in connection with the internal regulations of the University of Pardubice or the Faculty of Economics and Administration, the credit and examination can take place online, via MS TEAMS or MOODLE.
