Course content
Pregnancy; taking care of a pregnant woman; childbirth; taking care of an infant. Maternity hospitals; orphan houses; hospitals; infant and child mortality; dark aspects of childhood. The child in the family. Education and institutional education; home teaching; school; kindergarten; cr?che. Children's world; children's places; children's furniture; clothes; toys; children's reading. Puberty. Childhood traumas.

Learning outcomes
The aim of this course is to understand why the Modern time is so significant for the issue of a child's personality, the concept of childhood, and (not only institutional) upbringing.
Students will get an outline of selected topics in historical anthropology.

Written examination

Credit is dependent upon active participation in lectures and realizing a paper, the topic of which is approved in consultation with the lecturer.
