Learning outcomes
In the course, PhD students are actively introduced to current methods and interpretive approaches in research on the history of pre-modern European societies. Emphasis is placed on strengthening orientation in current research trends and the ability to apply them to their own research projects. The course concludes with an oral examination on which the student is given two questions. The first one is given at the beginning of the semester and corresponds thematically to the focus of the dissertation of the respective student, who prepares for the whole semester and sends his/her preparation in writing at least one week before the exam. The second question will be asked on the spot on the basis of a list of literature studied, which the student will bring (min. 20 titles). Note: This course is recommended for students with Ph.D. works from the 19th and 20th centuries in the second year of study. Medieval and early modern specialists retain the course for state exams.
