Course content
Importance and characteristic of general insurance, its historical development and contemporary position in the Czech Republic insurance market, comparison with other EU countries, basic terms. Hazards in general insurance, forms of general insurance. Claims record indicators and its interrelation. Determination of the premium in property and liability insurance, systems of additional charges and discounts. Insurance technical reserves in general insurance, its creation and application. Property insurance of individuals. Property insurance of company and industrial hazards. Agriculture hazards insurance. Financial loss insurance of individuals and companies. Liability insurance. Legal protection insurance and travel insurance. Evaluation of the solvency in general insurance, solvency rate.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint the students with basic information about the importance and principles of the functioning of general insurance in the conditions of competitive insurance market. The course deals with basic types of general insurance. The attention is paid separately to the insurance of individuals and companies.
Students will be well informed about forms of insurance, premium calculation, structure and determination of insurance technical reserves, hazards in the activity of general insurance companies and evaluation of its solvency. The attention is further paid to development trends in the Czech Republic general insurance.

Oral examination, Written examination, Didactic test, Systematic monitoring

The assignment is granted upon completion of the following conditions: attendance at seminars and completion of the seminar paper on a given topic. The examination is written and comprises of theoretical and practical part - solving practical insurance examples.
