Course content
Importance, task and function of reinsurance, basic theoretical categories. Types of reinsurance, facultative and obligatory reinsurance. Forms of reinsurance, proportional and unproportional reinsurance. Insurance pools, financial reinsurance. Methods of creation of reinsurance programmes. SWOT analysis of reinsurance programmes. Damage models in reinsurance. Calculation of netto reinsurance premium by the method of Burning Cost, Exposure Rating and method of scenarios. Calculation of netto reinsurance premium by the help of Pareto distribution. Catastrophic damages and reinsurance. Reinsurance in the Czech commercial insurance companies. Trends in international reinsurance markets.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to characterize in detail the reinsurance, its importance and function in the system of insurance. Students are introduced to basic types and forms of reinsurance, methods of creation of reinsurance programmes and ways of calculation of netto reinsurance premium. Furthermore, it deals with the position and trends of reinsurance in the Czech Republic as well as in the world and explains alternate ways of transfer of hazards in the system of insurance in connection with increasing occurrence of catastrophic damages.
Students will be able to apply methods of the theory of probability and statistics in the reinsurance.

The examination is written and comprises of the theoretical and practical part - solving practical examples of reinsurance.
