Lecturer(s)
  • Sedlák Miloš, prof. Ing. DrSc.
  • Hanusek Jiří, prof. Ing. Ph.D.
Course content
Attention is paid to the transition state theory, activation parameters of chemical reactions, homogeneous catalysis, isotope effect, the influence of solvents, salts and strong acids, respectively. A separate part will deal with the free energy relationships such as Hammett, Taft and Br?nsted correlation, evaluation of steric parameters and their importance in designing the mechanisms of organic reactions.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Work with text (with textbook, with book)
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint the students of the doctoral study program with the physico-chemical background of the course of organic reactions with emphasis on the description of the relationships between the structure of reactants and their reactivity.
The student will be able to design and evaluate physico-chemical experiments leading to the elucidation of the mechanism of organic reactions.
Prerequisites
The course builds on the basic knowledge acquired in the course of Physical Organic Chemistry taught in the 1st year of the follow-up master's study.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination

During the exam, the student will suggest ways to solve a given problem in the field of physical organic chemistry.
Recommended literature
