Course content
Professional information sources, databases, database centres. Electronic information resources, terminology, current situation in the Czech Republic. Digital databases, freely available resources, open access. Sources of information provided by public administration. Sources of information for public administration institutions. Sources of professional information in the field of natural, technical, social sciences, etc. Search strategies; current trends. Possibilities to assess the availability and relevance of data sources. Searches, evaluation of sources, search strategies, citations, citation standards and styles. Evaluation of science and research, citation indices, impact factor scientometrics, software. Databases and registers of the Czech Statistical Office and Eurostat. Plagiarism - possibilities to verify the originality of documents using electronic sources.

Learning outcomes
AIm of the subject is to introduce contemporary data sources and information services from the point of view of their utilization and potential risks, with a focus on strategies and trends in searching and evaluation of relevant information.
The student will be able to use information sources and evaluate the quality of sources and retrieved information.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination, Written examination, Self project defence

The assignment is granted upon elaboration and defense of the seminar project. The examination consists of both oral and written part. The level of knowledge is examined as well as the student ability to apply acquired knowledge on practical problem-solving.
