Course content
Conceptual view of knowledge management, the role of knowledge in the organization. System architecture for knowledge management support. Factors affecting knowledge management. Effects of knowledge management for the organization, evaluation of knowledge management in the organization. Schemes for the representation of knowledge. Ontology and the creation of knowledge bases. Semantic Web, RDF, OWL, conceptual and mind maps. Searching for information from the set of text documents. Searching the Web. Knowledge discovery in databases, repositories of knowledge.

Learning outcomes
The aim of this course is to acquaint students with basic approaches to knowledge management, the possibilities of system design for knowledge management support, as well as with the methods of knowledge discovery in databases, web, and documents.
After completing the course students should understand the basic approaches to knowledge management, they should be able to design systems for knowledge management support and basic knowledge representation schemes. They should be also able to use basic methods of knowledge discovery in databases, on the Web and in documents.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of management and information systems.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written examination, Home assignment evaluation, Student performance assessment, Self project defence

Graded assignment is granted upon successful defense of two practical projects, in which students demonstrate their ability to apply theoretical knowledge, with a success rate of at least 60% and written examination during the semester with a success rate of at least 60%.
