Course content
Attitude of the society to socially different groups and individuals throughout the history - religious and racial intolerance, attitude towards physically and mentally different individuals and groups Ideological and legislative discrimination in terms of various minority groups, hidden discrimination The concept of "socio-cultural handicap", the theory of John Stuart Mill, economic and social factors Socio-cultural handicap as a result of cultural deprivation Socio-cultural handicap as a result of social and cultural conflict Society's solutions of socio-cultural handicap, failure of institutions, positive discrimination, search for new solutions Related psychological terms: attitudes, prejudices and their transformation, group and altruistic behaviour Psychological, social and economic contexts in behaviour and experience of minorities' members - stigmatisation, similarity, etc. Issues of physically, sensually and mentally handicapped - specific features/attributes and characteristics changing attitudes of institutions Ethnic minorities - issues of the Romanies/lifestyle specifics, family, culture/ immigrants from other countries - social work, attitude of public administration personnel Unemployment - a growing social problem, changes of behaviour and experience of the unemployed, family and social situation/status: legislation and social and psychological attitude Breach of legal norms - criminality, the youth, drug addiction Moral and psychological aspects of the work of public administration personnel

Learning outcomes
The subject matter of the course is psychological and sicualogical aspects of the behaviour and approaches to different minorities, as public administration personal interact at work.
Students acquire basic knowledge about life style and behavior of minorities groups; and about possibilities of adequate approaches to these groups.
