Course content
Basics of intellectual property law (concept, division of intellectual property rights - copyright, industrial property rights, trade secrets and know-how, legal regulation of individual rights). Legal protection of inventions, utility models, European patent and Community patent (European patent with unitary effect. Legal protection of industrial designs, Community design, international protection of designs, improvement proposals. Trademarks, Community trade mark, international protection, designations of origin and geographical indications. Enforcement of industrial property rights and its instruments, anti-piracy law and cooperation with customs authorities on import and export, consumer protection against counterfeiting; Industrial property office, jurisdiction of the "patent" court, patent attorneys. Patent and trademark information, searches and their importance in business; methods of valuing intellectual property rights; patent policy and contributions of intellectual property rights to the company and participation of experts. Copyright of the Czech Republic, personal and property copyrights. Exceptions to the author's rights, free use, legal licenses, remuneration for the use of works for personal use; enforcement of rights in case of copyright infringement, cooperation with customs authorities in punishing illegal imitations of copyrighted works. Employee work, audiovisual work, school work, collective work, collective work; copyright-related rights (artistic performances, sound and audio-visual recordings, radio and television broadcasting). Types of contractual relations in the field of intellectual property - license agreement, work contract, contract on transfer of rights, intangible work contract according to the Civil Code. Public international law (WIPO, TRIPS) and EU intellectual property law, private international law and applicable law - conflict rules. Unfair competition, "unprotected" intangible assets and their protection by punishing unfair competition - trade secrets, know-how, goodwill, domain name, trade name.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basics of copyright, to inform students about rights related to copyright and their collective management, including the protection of multimedia works, computer programs and databases. Furthermore, the course aims to make students familiar with industrial property law (legal protection of inventions, utility and industrial designs, trademarks, designations of origin and geographical indications, trade companies), with legal aspects of "unprotected" intangible assets (trade secrets, know-how). how, goodwill, logo, domain name, etc.).
A student who has successfully completed the course can: clarify the issue of intellectual property rights in the field of marketing; explain the relationships between different types of intellectual property rights (copyright, industrial property, "unprotected" intangible assets and protection against unfair competition); explain the differences between the main types of contract in the field of intellectual property and the legal functions of their individual provisions and instruments. A student who has successfully completed the course is able to: draw up intellectual property contracts and promote their business interests in negotiations with the other party; use legislation and case law in the field of intellectual property in solving practical problems, interpret them correctly; use tools for the enforcement of intellectual property rights in the event of infringement by a third party, understand the resolution of civil disputes in court and criminal sanctions in this area. A student who has successfully completed the course know also how to: work with the database of registered trademarks, create a new trademark and prepare / submit a trademark application, or communicate with a patent attorney; apply their knowledge, skills and competences in the field of intellectual property law in protecting the interests of the organization; clearly and convincingly communicate to experts and lay people information about the nature of professional problems and their own opinion on their solution.
