The aim of this paper is to analyze the Citizenship Schools and their achievements in the Civil Rights Movement. The introductory chapter provides some insight into the history of voting rights of women and African Americans in the United States of America. The theoretical part also provides information about Septima Clark's personal life and work. Then, earlier educational programs that served African Americans are described. The following practical section presents the establishment and achievements of the Citizenship Schools. The final chapter is based on the analysis of the goals, functionality, and successes of the Citizenship Schools with the Freedom Schools, and a comparison between the two.

Zásady pro vypracování
A basic historical summary of the development of African-American participation in the political systems of the US should be included beginning in the Reconstruction era continuing through Jim Crow, e.g. how literacy became used as a criteria for the exclusion of poorer citizens (of all races). The wider political implications of issues like voter education should be represented as well as a survey of similar earlier educational programs which can be compared with Clark's Citizenship Schools in the analysis. A very short introduction to Clark's life and work should be presented, although many of her biographical and professional details will only be included as needed during the course of the analysis. In the longest and most important part of the BP, this analysis of the establishment and functionality of the Citizenship Schools and related literacy programs should be presented in terms of the goals, successes and failures in the context of the Civil Rights Movement. Finally, the legacy of Septima Clark can be summarized, i.e. changes in the issues of education, literacy and electoral politics in the African American community from Clark's death in the mid-1980s until the present day. What progress has been made? What challenges remain?
