This bachelor thesis is focused on the effect of Bi2O3 content on the formation of planar optical waveguides (hereafter referred to as waveguides) in a PbO-Bi2O3-Ga2O3 glassy system. The exposure of the samples was carried out on a translation stage using a focused laser with a wavelength of ë = 447 nm. The waveguides were formed with different combinations of laser intensities and translation stage movement speeds on three samples; 75PbO-25Ga2O3 (no addition), 62PbO-3Bi2O3-25Ga2O3 and 60PbO-15Bi2O3-25Ga2O3.
