The aim of this dissertation was to determine whether ethanol dehydration can be a reliable method for evaluating the acidity of zeolites. Recently, a discrepancy has also been found between the frequency shift of the OH vibration when interacting with a weak base (CO, N2) and the adsorption enthalpy of these molecules on the MWW of the zeolite. This raised the question, if the strength of the Bronsted acid centers of MWW zeolite is lower than the MFI zeolite, as the CO adsorption enthalpy showss, or higher, as would correspond to the frequency shift value. This work also examines how the acidity of Bronsted acid centers is affected by the transformation of 3D material into 2D/hierarchical material and also whether the different
strength of Bronsted acid centers is inside the micropores of the zeolite structure and on its surface or mesopores of the hierarchical zeolite form. Infrared spectroscopy, temperatureprogrammed desorption and a model ethanol dehydration reaction were most often used to study this issue.
