Course objectives:

to acquaint students with the specifics of the design of urban roads and their functions, including the issue of street space composition and dealing with traffic calming.

Content
|
1. Principals and criterias, Modal Split, legislation, functions of urban roads, efforts to harmonize claims, road skeleton, network hierarchy, transverse road composition design, type of road, functional groups A - C, design elements, limits, inputs, SWOT analysis, surveys, National traffic survey (CSD), 4 phases of traffic prognosis 2. Organization and regulation of transport, tools-aims, examples 3. Traffic calming 4. Parking, determining the number of parking lots 5. Ways of parking areas, handicapped, parking layout, space demand, slopes, parking construction, static and dynamic parking capacity 6. Mass garages, classification, design elements, types of ramps, garage houses - examples. 7. Pedestrians - sidewalks, footbridges, staircases, underpasses, principles of capacity calculation for pedestrians. 8. Cyclists - roads for cyclists, capacity of cyclepath 9. Public transport stops 10. Intersections principles of design and layout, capacities - at grade intersections (UK): unity of construction and traffic conditions, principles of UK design, traffic flow channelizing, design check by swept analysis, roundabouts (OK): advantages-disadvantages, multi-lane OK, types of turbo roundabouts 11. Intersections principles of design and layout, capacities -intersection with traffic lights (UK-SSZ): principles, criteria, stage diagram, green split/intergreen, saturation flow, optimal cycle time, productive and non-productive cycle time, design and assessment procedure, green wave 12. Intersections principles of design and layout, capacities - grade-separated intersections (MUK): space demands of construction, types of ramps, types of MUK, speed profile, design principles, traffic engineering design principles, function of collector 13.
