Course objectives:
|
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the complex approach and specifics of care for elderly patients. The aim of the second part of the course is to familiarize students with the most common infectious diseases, their diagnosis, treatment, prophylaxis, and prevention, including the specifics of nursing care.

Requirements on student
|
80 % compulsory attendance in seminars. Fulfilling the tasks assigned in seminars. Passing a written test or an oral exam as decided by the course guarantor.

Content
|
Introduction - basic issues of infectious diseases. Diagnostic process and treatment of basic infectious diseases problematika infekčních onemocnění. Protection against infectious disease - vaccination. Overview of selected infectious diseases - viral hepatitis, diarrheal diseases, neuroinfections, sexually transmitted diseases.
The peculiarities of the work of a nurse in an infectious disease ward. Nursing process in patients with infectious diarrhoeal disease and viral hepatitis. Nursing process in patients with infectious diseases affecting the nervous system. Nursing process in patients with HIV.

The student knows special characteristics of diseases in the old age, both from a general perspective and from a perspective of specific disease groups. The student has specialized theoretical and practical knowledge of the nursing process in the care of patients with an infectious illness. |
