Course objectives:
|
The aim of the course is to give students basic information from the field of health and illness psychology and psychosomatic medicine, which are necessary for the profession of the general nurse.

Requirements on student
|
80 % compulsory attendance in seminars. Passing a written test. Passing an oral exam.

Content
|
Psychosomatic relations. Personality of a healthy/ill woman, her life story, values, family. A healthy/ill woman and her family as a subject of care. Concepts of illness/handicap/pregnancy/birth, health beliefs, experiencing and coping with situations in which health is disrupted. Pain, fear, anxiety, and their management.
Professional, lay language. Kindness and mercy. Working with a life story. Crisis intervention. Supervision.

Competences acquired |
The student understands the distinctiveness of the psyche during an illness, knows the effect of a health care institution on the patient as well as the health care workers and is able to eliminate its negative influence. He/she explains the psychological basis of selected illnesses and defects, knows and applies principles of a psychological approach to ill adults and children, to the handicapped, the dying, and the bereaved. |
