Course objectives:
|
The aim of the course is to provide students with knowledge on theoretical principles and tools for analysis of rail vehicles, their running behaviour and interaction with the track.
|
Requirements on student
|
The course is concluded by an exam where the students are asked to demonstrate the knowledge from the course and the ability to use it.

- Basic concepts of wheelset-track interaction
- Movement of wheelset in tangent track
- Characteristics of wheelset-track contact geometry
- Vehicle running in tangent track
- Guiding behaviour in curves, Heumann method
- Creepage and slip of wheels
- Adhesion of rail vehicles - transmission of forces in the wheel-rail contact
- Safety against derailment
- Vehicle on twisted track
- Axle load transfer
- Suspension of rail vehicles

Prerequisites - other information about course preconditions |
It is assumed that the students are equipped with knowledge in mathematics and mechanics and that they are acquainted with basic concepts of railway technology and design of rail vehicles. |
Competences acquired |
After passing the course, the students have knowledge of principles of rail vehicle theory and they can use the knowledge in analysis of rail vehicle running and curve negotiation. |
