Course objectives:
|
to acquaint students with the basic tasks of railway switches and crossings design and assessment and planning and design of railway station, station throat and construction for passengers and for freight traffic, including the elaboration of project documentation.

Content
|
1. Railway switches and crossings and their types. 2. Railway switches: basic terms, geometrical parametres. 3. Structure of simple turnout and its components. 4. Diamond crossing and diamond cossing with slips. 5. Distance between turnouts, clearing point, railway crossover, curved turnouts, groups of turnouts. 6. Operating control post, stations and their types. 7. Tracks in the stations, railway signal. 8. Station throat. 9. Track geometry in the stations. 10. Railway superstructure, substructure and drainage in the stations. 11. Construction for passengers, platforms. 12. Construction for freight traffic, design of loading district. 13. Intermediate station. 14. Basic design of other types of railway stations (terminal, connecting, junction, crossing, yard, freight, passenger station). 15. Railway halt, overtaking station, railway junction.
